The start of another walleye fishing season is right around the corner in Minnesota, which makes it the perfect time for fishing holidays to the state. Like other noted holidays, the annual fishing opener brings families and friends together as generations of fishermen gather to swap stories from seasons past.
It is also a great Minnesota tradition, and the season opener will see more people on the water then at any other point in the year. For many this may be only time they'll fish all season. Those who want to avoid the crowds should wait a week or two after the opener for their vacations. Weather conditions don't matter much, because wind, rain, and snow will not stop the crowds from gathering on the lake for opening day. Everything looks set up for a good start to the season, and the best strategy for catching walleyes is to think shallow, think minnows and think slow as you hit the lake.
